Summarization
Summarize a text using a LLM
Ce contenu n’est pas encore disponible dans votre langue.
Turn a long text into a short summary with a chat model.
Try it
Section titled “Try it”Summarize This Page : un workflow de 4 étapes, qui commence par Run now et se termine par Show the summary.
What it does
Section titled “What it does”Summarization sends Text to the chat model connected to Model, asking for a concise summary that keeps the key points. The reply comes back in summary.
Max words and Style are added to the model’s instructions. They guide the model; they do not cut the text afterwards, so a summary can run a little over Max words.
The whole text is sent in one request, so it must fit the model’s context window.
When to use it
Section titled “When to use it”- Summarise an article or a long page before you read it.
- Shorten a transcript, an email thread or a report before you save or send it.
- Make compact context for another AI step.
To summarise on-device without a model node, use Summarize. For any other kind of rewrite, use Basic LLM Chain.
Inputs and settings
Section titled “Inputs and settings”| Réglage | Type | Ce que cela fait |
|---|---|---|
| Text (obligatoire) | Long text | The text to summarize. |
| Options | Group | The options for the node. |
| Options › Max words | Number | The approximate maximum number of words the summary should contain. |
| Options › Style | Text | The style of the summary, e.g. "bullet points", "one paragraph", "formal". |
| Options › System message | Long text | The system message to use. |
Fill Text with an expression such as {{ $input.text }}. Style is free text: bullet points, one paragraph, formal, for a ten-year-old. Use System message for other rules, such as Write in French.
Outputs
Section titled “Outputs”-
Output
Each output item has these fields:
| Field | Type | What it holds |
|---|---|---|
| summary | Any | The model reply; the parsed result when an output parser is connected |
{ "summary": null}summary is the summary as text. This node has no output parser slot. Use it downstream with {{ $input.summary }}.
Dependencies and credentials
Section titled “Dependencies and credentials”| Slot | Accepts | Connections |
|---|---|---|
| Model (obligatoire) | chat model | One node. |
Connect a chat model such as Chat OpenAI, Chat Anthropic or an on-device Web LLM. The model node holds the API key; Summarization has no credential of its own.
Example workflow
Section titled “Example workflow”- Get All Text reads the current page, with Output field name
textand Visible text only on. - Summarization with Text
{{ $input.text }}, Max words120and Stylebullet points, with an Chat OpenAI model on Model. - Display Markdown with Content
{{ $input.summary }}.
Common issues
Section titled “Common issues”- The summary is longer than Max words. The limit is an instruction, not a hard cut. Lower it, or add
Never exceed the word limit.in System message. - The model fails on a very long page. The text is larger than the model’s context window. Use a model with a larger window, or shorten the text first (for example with a DOM Selector in Get All Text).
- “Dependency model is required”. Connect a chat model to the Model slot.
- “Model not found”. The connected model node is not set up: open it and choose a model and its credential.
Recipes with this node
Section titled “Recipes with this node”Related nodes
Section titled “Related nodes”- Summarize: on-device summaries, no model node needed.
- Basic LLM Chain: any prompt, any rewrite.
- Information Extractor: pull specific fields instead of a summary.
